Cristiana Almeida holds a PhD in Social Work (2022) from the Interuniversity Doctoral Programme in Social Work, jointly offered by the Faculty of Humanities of the Portuguese Catholic University and the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra. Her doctoral research, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through a doctoral fellowship (2017–2022), focused on network governance in local territories. She also holds a Master's degree in Sociology, specialising in Local Policies and Decentralisation, and a Bachelor's degree in Sociology, both from the Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra.
She is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Bachelor's Degree in Social Work at Universidade Lusófona – University Centre of Porto. She is a researcher at INTREPID Lab and CETRAD – Centre for Transdisciplinary Development Studies. Previously, she held academic positions at the Miguel Torga Higher Institute, the Portuguese Catholic University (Braga), and the University of Coimbra.
Her main research topics include social work, social policies, network governance, social intervention, social innovation, social impact assessment, local development, sociology, and political science.
