João M. Lopes holds a PhD in Management. He is an Associate Professor at Universidade Lusófona, where he serves as Director of the Bachelor's Degree in Commercial Management. He is also a researcher at INTREPID Lab and NECE – Research Unit in Business Sciences.
He has published more than 120 scientific articles indexed in Web of Science and/or Scopus and has a Scopus h-index of 32. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of the Knowledge Economy, Cogent Business & Management, and SN Social Sciences. According to the AD Scientific Index 2026, he is ranked among the leading researchers in Portugal in the field of Business and Management.
His main research topics include regional innovation systems, smart specialisation, RIS3 strategies, artificial intelligence, tourism, strategy, entrepreneurship, marketing, innovation, circular economy, circular entrepreneurship, digital technologies in business, environmental and social sustainability, and competitiveness.
