Manuela Maria Cardoso de Oliveira, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at Lusófona University and a researcher associated with INTREPID LAB – Research for Business and Society and the ECEO – School of Economic and Organizational Sciences. She also collaborates with IPMA – Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere and CETRAD – Centre for Transdisciplinary Development Studies, bringing together expertise in operational research, optimisation, management and sustainable fisheries.
She holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering and Management from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, with a doctoral thesis focused on the application of bio-economic models to the management of the dredge fleet in Portugal. She also holds a Master's degree in Operational Research from the University of Lisbon and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. Her academic and professional path combines computer science, mathematical modelling, operational research and management, with a strong focus on the optimisation of complex systems.
Her research has focused particularly on operational research, optimisation, fisheries management, fleet performance and sustainable resource management. Her work includes the development and application of mathematical, statistical and simulation models to support decision-making in fisheries, including studies of technical and economic efficiency, productivity, fleet management, catch quotas and sustainable management of artisanal fisheries. Her broader interests also encompass process optimisation, management, data analysis and applied quantitative methods.
Alongside her academic activity, she has developed professional experience in consulting, human resources and digital advisory, including collaborations with Adecco Portugal and Amrop Portugal. Her multidisciplinary background allows her to connect quantitative analysis, management and optimisation with practical organisational challenges and decision-making.
