Rogério Gouveia Bessa, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at Lusófona University, associated with the ECEO – School of Economic and Organizational Sciences and the FCESE – Faculty of Economic, Social and Business Sciences. His academic and professional background combines management, finance, engineering and economic analysis, with a particular focus on financial literacy, investment decision-making and business performance.
He holds a PhD in Economic Analysis and Business Strategy from the University of Vigo, completed in 2024 with Sobresaliente cum laude, with a doctoral thesis entitled “Financial Literacy and Robot-advisors: Essays on Causalities”. He also holds a Master's degree in Management from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, a degree in Management, and a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto, as well as postgraduate training in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.
His research focuses on Financial Literacy, Investment Decision-Making, Digital Finance, Robot-Advisors and Financial Performance, with additional interests in Digital Accounting, Corporate Finance and Business Management. His work combines quantitative approaches and bibliometric analysis to investigate how financial knowledge, digital technologies and organisational factors influence financial decisions and business outcomes. His recent research includes the study of digital accounting and its relationship with emerging technologies, digital skills and business decision-making.
His academic work also addresses the financial performance of Portuguese firms, including research on the determinants of performance in the Portuguese wine sector. His multidisciplinary background in engineering, management and economics contributes to an applied perspective on financial decision-making, business performance and organisational management.
